Living without breasts

Being back in hospital for a non-cancer operation recently, prompted me to think about my body and how it has changed over the last two and a half years following my breast cancer diagnosis. I’ve acquired another scar, this time high up on the side of my right buttock, to add to the two across … Continue reading Living without breasts →

Musings on fake boobs and nipples

Following my breast cancer diagnosis and mastectomy  so many thoughts were whirling around my head. One that kept recurring was, when and whether to be fitted for a replacement breast or prosthesis. Prosthesis or flat chest? - that was the question. There were other questions like what size, what colour, what shape, what weight, what … Continue reading Musings on fake boobs and nipples →

Two years & two breasts later…

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in January 2016. This post describes my treatment, including two mastectomies, and how I decided not to have reconstruction after mastectomy but to live flat. Cancerversaries come thick and fast for me at this time of year. I haven’t written much publicly about my breast cancer, but I feel … Continue reading Two years & two breasts later… →

There’s something about decaying flowers - beautiful in their own right #springflowers #decay #nothinglivesforever
This morning I found this poem by Helen Dunmore hidden away in the Notes in my phone. So beautiful, moving and poignant. Helen wrote the poem when she discovered her cancer had a poor prognosis & she was likely to die soon. The poem was published in a collection called ‘Inside the Wave’ two months before her death in June 2017. The collection posthumously won the Costa Book of the Year award. Such a wonderful piece of writing #poetry #movedbywriting #poignant #beautyinflowers

Little frozen lupins on the not so sunny patch this morning. Fingers crossed they’ll make it - I think they will. Very pretty with the frost on them #sunnypatch #grownnotflown #flowerfarmer #frozenseedlings #lupins #britishflowers #growninmygarden #flowersmakemehappy
NEW BLOG POST......What to do to commemorate the third anniversary of my breast cancer diagnosis? 🌼 It’s today, by the way – 22nd January 2019. 🌼 I decided to celebrate, rather than commemorate. 🌼 I celebrated being alive and being one of the lucky 1 in 8. 🌼 I celebrated life and family and flowers. 🌼 I celebrated by getting inked. 🌼 A beautiful, subtle, delicate tattoo on the inside of my right arm. 🌼 Because I could…because I’m still alive…because I love my family…because I’m one of the lucky ones. 🌼 Link to the rest of the post is in my bio. #tattoo #breastcancer #mastectomy #anniversary #flatandfabulous #thriver #flowertattoo #flowersmakemehappy
Flower post with a difference! 💐 I got myself a tattoo yesterday! I’m not sure that I ever would have had one if it hadn’t have been for cancer. Yesterday was was the third anniversary of my breast biopsies when I knew in my heart that I had a tumour in my breast... so it seemed like a good day to get this done. The flowers are the birth flowers of my husband, son, daughter & me. Chrysanthemum, violet & morning glory. The piece also symbolises my post cancer love for growing cut flowers from seed. Thanks to @ellastormtattoo at @southcitymarket for the design and for tattooing me! #tattoo #blackwork #finelinetattoo #botanicaltattoo #flowertattoo #postcancerlife #breastcancerthriver #breastcancer #mastectomy
