I was very fortunate to have met Vicki and have my photo taken by her just before we were locked down. Vicki came to my garden for a shoot for her personal project of women who inspire her. I met Juliet in her garden just before the current restrictions came in on a beautiful sunny spring day. Nominated by the brilliant @suelacey who participated in my project last year, Sue said... “Juliet was diagnosed with Breast cancer in 2016. As result she had a mastectomy removing her left breast. After some consideration she decided to choose to ‘live flat' and have the other breast removed the following year. She had to persuade surgeons to do so, she had to stand her ground to remove the second breast. It became very apparent that ’society’ and the medical profession generally push the notion of reconstruction rather than even presenting the option to living flat. Juliet is passionate about changing this. Juliet has been inspirational in the way she has embraced her new life and taken control on how she wants to live going forward. She now advocates for women choosing to live fight, supports women after breast cancer, sits on panels, completes radio interviews and appears on Billboards and Escalator panels as a ‘flat’ model to represent the (up until now) ‘unseen and unrepresented ‘flat’ woman in media. It’s energy and time consuming and a hugely vulnerable position to put herself in, but she meets the challenges of social media, pressure and travel and embraces the uncomfortable in order to get her message across and to help her grown as a person.” I cannot tell you how grateful I was to meet Juliet and take her photo. She is so open and warm and happy to share her story. This weekend I’ve been enjoying the sunshine & prepping my new flower cutting patch. I’ve built four raised beds from recycled scaffold boards & filled them with topsoil. I hope that they’ll be more manageable in terms of weeding & maintenance. I’m going to post photos of my plants as they grow from seed to flower. Oh my goodness. I did a seriously tough Tabeta session with my PT @ewsportstherapy this morning. 8 sets of 6 exercises. 20 seconds effort, 10 seconds rest with 30 seconds between each set. It was so tough but I do love that Evie pushes me hard. I burnt 422 calories which is a record for me. I’ve been working with Evie for about 18 months & we’ve gradually built up to this. It’s all about strength & fitness for me & I get such a buzz once the session’s over. I love it & hope I inspire others to see that you’re never too old to start exercising whatever that means for you.
